Recipe Thursday-Lamb Burgers with Oregano, Mint and Tzatziki Sauce

Posted on August 16th, 2012 | Posted in Grilling, Main Course, Recipes

I had heard stories about the delicious Lamb Burgers that my sister and brother in law make, but had not gotten to enjoy them until this past weekend. They made these simple Weber lamb burgers for my niece’s birthday gathering. The burgers were juicy and nice and flavorful with the addition of the feta cheese in the burger. Also, the flavors from the fresh poppy seed buns from Dosie Dough Bakery and homemade tzatziki sauce made these burgers some of my favorite!

Lamb Burgers

Yield 6 Servings

2 teaspoons minced garlic (991057)
8 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint, divided
½ cup plain yogurt (PVF501)
½ teaspoon kosher salt (CQS030)
Few drops Tabasco sauce (991214)

2 pounds ground lamb
2/3 cup crumbled feta cheese (774395)
1/3 cup minced yellow onion
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh oregano
1-½ teaspoons kosher salt (CQS030)
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (CQP071)

6 Kaiser rolls (559341)

To make the sauce:
In a small bowl, stir together the garlic, 2 tablespoons of the mint, and the remaining sauce ingredients. Cover with plastic and refrigerate until ready to serve.

To prepare the burgers: In a large bowl, gently mix the burger ingredients, including the remaining 6 tablespoons of mint. Shape the meat into six patties of equal size, about ¾-inch thick. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before grilling. Grill the burgers over direct high heat until cooked through, 8 to 10 minutes, turning once. During the last 30 seconds, toast the buns, cut side down, over direct high heat.

Serve the lamb burgers on the toasted buns with tzatziki sauce.
