Recipe Thursday-Hatfield Grilled Meatball Parmesan Hero

Looking for something different to grill this Labor Day weekend? Hatfield Grilled Meatball Parmesan Heros are a nice change from what you may typically think to grill. Everything can be made ahead of time. From grilling to assembly it takes about 15 minutes. The sandwich flavors are very clean and simple and will be sure to satisfy the whole crowd!

Grilled Meatball Parmesan Hero Hometown Provisions

Yield: Serves 4-6 Servings
Ingredients

For the Sauce
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (992059)
2 teaspoons minced garlic (about 2 medium cloves) (03016)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (CQP101)
28 ounces extra heavy crushed Old California tomatoes (993307)
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh basil leaves (04973)
Kosher salt (CQS030) and freshly ground black pepper (CQP071)

For the Meatballs
1 pound ground beef chuck (222022)
1/2 pound ground pork (HTF3078)
3/4 cup bread crumbs (991919)
2 large eggs, lightly beaten (EGG011)
2/3 cup Parmesan Reggiano cheese, grated (CWIT326)
2 teaspoons minced garlic (about 2 medium cloves) (03016)
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley leaves (00748)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (CQP101)
Olive oil, for brushing (992055)

6 ounces whole milk shredded mozzarella cheese (775554)
4 12″ hoagie rolls, halved (559495)

Method
For the Sauce: place olive oil, garlic, and crushed red pepper in medium saucepan over medium heat. When oil starts to bubble around garlic, stir in tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook until sauce has slightly thickened, about 15 minutes. Stir in basil; season salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the Meatballs: In a large bowl, mix together chuck, pork, bread crumbs, egg, Parmesan, garlic, parsley and crushed red pepper until thoroughly combined. Roll meat mixture into 16 meatballs 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Season meatballs all over liberally with salt and pepper.

Light grill to medium high and allow to preheat for 5 minutes. Clean and oil the grilling grate. Brush meatballs with olive oil and place on the grill and cook until well browned all over and cooked through, about 8 minutes total, 2 minutes per side. Remove to plate.

Hometown Grilled Meatballs

Turn one side of the grill to low and keep the other side hot. Toast rolls on hot side of grill, cut side down, until lightly browned. Move rolls to cool side of the grill, cut side up, and fill with meatballs. Spoon sauce over meatballs and top with mozzarella cheese. Cover grill and cook until cheese has completely melted. Remove from grill and serve immediately.
